2013 Year in Review

It was a steady (but relatively slower) year for Web Axe. Besides some blogging, I managed 2 podcasts, Twittered a lot, and maintained the Facebook page. All-in-all 2013 was a great year, with more than enough things to review; here are some:

Do you have anything special to share from this past year?

Web Axe 2012 Year in Review

It was another great year for Web Axe and its creator Dennis Lembree.

Early in 2012, we published the Podcast 94: Women of CSUN12 featuring six female presenters (one of my favorite podcasts); then a quick review of the conference.

May was the month of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). Here’s the GAAD podcast and Reflecting on GAAD by guest author Jennison.

To address the most bothersome trend of the year, we wrote Placeholder Attribute Is Not A Label!

Mid-year, Dennis was fortunate enough to attend Google IO12; here’s the blog, Google IO12 Review and Accessibility.

In September, we published a extensive book review on Pro HTML5 Accessibility. Then, Dennis presented How To Build An Accessible Web Application virtually at the Boston Accessibility (Un)Conference.

In October, a huge change came to the New Web Axe Website! We moved from Blogger to WordPress. The RSS feed has also changed. Please update your links.

In November came Accessibility Camp LA and a podcast featuring great improvements in WordPress accessibility.

Lastly, here are some blog responses and website reviews over the year:

Looking forward to another big year in 2013!

Web Axe 2011 Year in Review

So another year has gone by, and another bigger and better for web accessibility! One good sign is that I’ve noticed lots of job openings related to web accessibility, you probably noticed multiple posts on that this year. And more lawsuits going on as well, which I believe is an evil necessity to wake up many companies on the topic.

The “Fixing Alt” series continued which provides alternative text for various web pages in the wild. Check out two for The Oatmeal: the Netflix Comic on the company’s pricing fiasco, and 6 Reasons Bacon Is Better Than True Love.

We had a couple guest blogs including Jennison’s IT Accessibility Goes To Camp. Mid-year, Web Axe joined Facebook, serving as another great avenue to share the good word. And, now you can order your own Web Axe T-shirt!

2011 was also a big year for Easy Chirp, created by Web Axe author Dennis Lembree. The accessible Twitter web app was renamed from “Accessible Twitter” and was a recipient of the AFB 2011 Access Award.

Dennis was busy in November and gave presentations for the @AccessibilityDC meetup, How To Build An Accessible Web Application, and for EASI, Twitter and Accessibility.

Other great blogs this year:
